This place not only stands out for its architecture, but also for being home to a diverse and vibrant Guatemalan community, with more than 1 million Guatemalans calling it home.
Since its establishment in 1908, the Consulate General of Guatemala in Los Angeles has established itself as one of the oldest and most significant in the Guatemalan world. Over the years, it has played a crucial role in promoting the Guatemalan community in the region, becoming a pillar for Guatemalans in and around Los Angeles.
History and Services Offered
The consulate offers a wide range of essential services to the community, including the issuance of passports and visas, registration of births, marriages and deaths, notarization of documents, legal and consular assistance, promotion of trade and investment, and protection of the rights of Guatemalans abroad.
It also houses a museum with an impressive collection of Guatemalan art and historical objects and a library full of books and materials about Guatemala, further enriching its cultural and educational offerings.
In 2017, marking another milestone in its history, the consulate inaugurated the Migrant Attention Center, aimed at offering specialized services to Guatemalans in the process of migrating to the United States.
